SILK FANS MASTERCLASS with Rae Chrysalis - MELBOURNE

from $70.00

SATURDAY 16TH MAY

Lux Studio

54A Moreland Rd, Brunswick, Melbourne, 3056

BEGINNER 2HR INTENSIVE

11.15-1.15PM

This is not your average “stand-and-drill” beginner workshop.

While we’ll cover essential foundations (grips, pathways, transitions, and core technique), you’ll learn them through full-body movement. Drawing from my background in ballet, contemporary, heels, and other dance styles, I teach silk fans as an extension of the body—integrating emotional expression, dynamics, and expansive movement from the very beginning.

We’ll begin with a full-body warmup, learn specific pathways, explore beginner-friendly combinations, and move beyond basic drills into accessible choreography that blends new skills with full-body emotive expression.

This workshop features its own unique choreography that won’t be taught in the later Intermediate/Advanced session. Taken together, these intensives become a full-day silk fan immersion—offering refinement, challenge, and integration across two completely different choreographies.

Especially for dancers in that in-between space, this full-arc approach can accelerate growth and expand your range.

Silk fans are available to borrow or purchase for those who are new to this art form.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED 2HR INTENSIVE

1.45-3.45PM

Ready to expand your technique and challenge your flow? This intensive is designed for dancers who are comfortable with foundational silk fan skills and want to learn new skills, refine technique, explore intricate sequences, and embody dynamic transitions.

My approach blends flow arts skills with full-bodied dance technique—rooted in ballet, contemporary, and jazz dance techniques, we’ll incorporate beautiful lines and controlled dynamic movement into your flow, so the silks become an extension of your body and expression.

We’ll begin with a full-body warmup before diving into layered combinations, complex weaves and pathways, and technical skill-building. The workshop culminates in a dynamic choreography that pushes coordination, musicality, and emotional expression.

This intensive features a completely different choreography from the Beginner session, so attending both allows you to expand your movement vocabulary and leave with two unique performance-ready sequences.

Especially if you’re in that in-between space, taking both intensives can be deeply expansive: one to refine and ground your foundations, the other to stretch your edges and elevate your artistry.

**A discount is available when registering for both intensives
